Filozofia Filmowo is an educational and research project in the form of a review of films about philosophy, philosophical film as well as documentaries. Its mission is to bring the people of Warmia and Mazury philosophy in cinematically attractive and innovative way. Paying attention to the currents of philosophy, its role in the contemporary world is one of the aims. Contrary to the stereotype that wants to confine philosophy only to the academic world, we remind people that philosophy is close to every man, you can philosophise in many different ways and using various means of expression. Therefore, the main idea of this project is the meeting of two disciplines, philosophy and cinema. By using film screenings, lectures and discussions, we want to make the audience aware of how philosophy is present in their daily life. The festival also promotes the art of filmmaking. It is to acquaint with the documentaries aswell as biographical, experimental and ambitious films. In this way, we want to raise awareness to the problems of philosophy and philosophising, and at the same time show that the cinema as a friend of wisdom can entertain and delight. The festival is trying to find cinema touched by philosophy, that reflects on itself, working with a form and corresponds with the philosophical treatise or essay.
The goals of Filozofia Filmowo are as follows:- Promoting philosophical knowledge;
- Introducing philosophy in public spaces;
- Developing critical reception skills of film art;
- Improving critical thinking and analytical abilities;
- Increasing the role of film as a didactic tool used in the process of teaching philosophy and ethics;
- Studying the relationship between philosophy and film;
- Determining the specifics of philosophical film;
- Promoting reading;
- Increasing the availability of cultural resources outside large urban centers;
- Promoting the region;
- Integrating the local film community;
- Facilitating closer cooperation between schools, universities and the artistic environment;
- Fostering links among generations.
Attending all screenings, lectures and discussions organized by the Filozofia Filmowo is free of charge.
